RACHEL FOWLER
with Allen Gilmore as Parrolles
in ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL
Directed by Tim Ocel
at
Shakespeare Santa Cruz

Fowler is excellent as Helena, clear and controlled,
making us believe Bertram's the fool for not seeing her
as the prize she is.

Santa Cruz Sentinel

Fowler lights the stage with her Helena, a nimble-witted
heroine every bit as plucky and resourceful as Rosalind
or Viola. She loves Bertram so deeply that nothing else
matters.

The actress nimbly suggests both Helena's grace and
forthrightness and also her foolish insistence on forging
ahead even if charging straight off a cliff. Blinded by
love, she can't see there is no victory in landing an
unworthy husband.

Fowler's tightly controlled performance is
already haunting and on its way to being
one for the books.

- John Moore, Denver Post

Rachel Fowler is faithful to
Lindsay-Abaire's portrait of a woman
whose suffering makes her hard to like;
her approach to Becca's slow softening is
rich and nicely understated.

This staging is notable for the formidable
Fowler's constantly surprising portrayal
of lonely Adelaide, who appears to be the
perfect mark. She's a fat, aging and
unloved hatmaker with zero self-esteem,
an eating disorder and 50 quid of
disposable income. Tom Cruise had
Renee Zellweger at hello. In much less
romantic fashion, Mr. Love has Adelaide,
she admits, by merely looking at her. No
one else has ever bothered.
